Ryan had his cat scan this morning and the doctors have found that the ventricles in his brain have enlarged. Due to this, Ryan will be going back in for surgery tomorrow to have a shunt put into his brain. Hopefully it will all go okay. We are not sure how this will affect his discharge at this point in time. We are trying to work out the logistics of where Ryan will go next. However a lot of this is contingent upon his cognitive status, his medical status as well as insurance. We hope to have more info in the next few days. Once we know where he will go, then we will work on how he will get there! (Thanks To those who are helping with this as well!!)
Thanks to everyone for all the advise and suggestions. Sorry if I cannot get back to you all. Our first step is to find out where he will go. There is a chance he might need to stay at a LTAC facility here before going to rehab. We will keep you all informed.

We a friend who works at a Boston hospital and tomorrow she is going to try to contact a trama neurosurgeon at the Brigham/Women's hospital.She also, might a have information on an angel flight pilot. New Endland Rehab., in Woburn Mass. is supposed to have a great program.

ReplyDeleteWe have a neighbor who works with brain injuries, she suggested that you contact the Brain Injury Association. They are a national organization and could help you find a chapter in Texas and help transition you up to Mass. She also said that depending where he is in recovery when you leave Texas, RHCI has a great program, also there is a private pay organization that may help with his care called Case Management Professionals they have a local number 508-888-7138.
