Not much change today.
They decreased his sedation in the morning. This allowed him to have more spontaneous movements throughout the day but nothing that they felt was purposeful. We will see what tomorrow brings.

ReplyDeleteYou found my daughter Courtney's blogspot somehow. Courtney was involved in a serious MVA in November. She was in serious condition and in a deep non-responsive coma for 8 days. She remained in a coma minimally conscious for another 9 weeks. While this sounds dire I'm telling you this so that you do not give up hope. One thing our family heard and read was that your family knows Ryan better than anyone else. You know the small signs that he is in there. We knew the look in Courtney's eye, the way she looked from person to person when named and other small signs that the doctors insisted didn't exist or were not purposeful. You must believe in your understanding of who he is and to whom he responds. Please have faith and hope. This is a very very difficult road. Courtney had her tracheostomy at about 8 days, then a feeding tube about a week later. She did very little tracking or purposeful movement and almost no following commands the entire time she was in the intensive care uit. She went on to Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital. We would be happy to share more about it with you. Above all everyone has told us that the loving support and encouragement of family every day is key to survival and complete recovery. We spoke to Courtney, sang, played music and read to her knowing that she could hear everything we said. We insisted that care givers address her while in the room (even when in a coma) and discuss negative news outside the room. We always told Courtney that she could recover. She continues to recover today and has much cognitive recovery ahead of her so that she can have her full life back.
